vaporwave is typically sampling or manipulating tracks via chopped and screwed techniques and other effects, so yeah, there is a lot more work that goes into it then just making the song slower or having a slow beat. It's like the same thing with nightcore, you just don't speed it up (at least not for me when I make a nightcore song) but it's also changing the pitch and mastering the music.
In my opinion I don't like vaporwave, because I like more upbeat stuff like Happy Hardcore, so I am not really an expert when it comes to vaporwave, but it's nice to see that some people are still into it, because I thought it was a dead internet thing now.

It's far from dead. It's drama ridden over here at the moment but the releases keep coming and the tours keep rolling.
